
| Workshop Information
All 2011-2012 workshops will be held at Cleveland State University, 2121 Euclid Avenue, building MU in room G17 or G15. These rooms are located in the basement of the music building. Parking on the street is free on Saturdays. There’s also a parking lot adjacent to the music building for a $5 dollar fee. AOSA & Cleveland Chapter member workshop cost is $25; Cleveland Chapter only members is $35; non-member guest cost is $50; College students one time fee for all workshops is $5. Because of NEOEA funding, costs for the NEOEA Friday workshop will differ. Prices for that workshop are $20 for non-chapter members, and free for members. | Julie Scott September 17, 2011: 9:00 TO 1:00 PM Topic: Improvisation: Carpe Diem! Carl Orff wrote, “It is not the playing from notation but the free making of music in improvisation that is meant and demanded, for which the printed examples give information and stimulus.” In this hands-on workshop, participants will learn pieces for singing, body percussion, unpitched percussion and Orff instruments, all of which will serve as models for improvisation. Materials will include pieces by Carl Orff and Gunild Keetman. Come prepared to imagine, create and improvise! |
| JoElla Hug NEOEA Weekend: Friday, Oct 14, 8:30-3:30 & Saturday, Oct 15, 9:00-1:00 Friday Topic: Oct. 14 Orff Schulwerk for Success: Lessons for K-8 General Music Saturday Topic: Oct. 15 Recorders and More: It's all about PROCESS On Friday, Experience the application of Orff process from simple beat keeping while singing to multiple drum lines which accompany singing or melodic material for mallets. Orff Schulwerk builds the musical framework and weaves the strong fabric which supports the complete musician. From speech to body percussion to untuned percussion to mallets, all pathways lead to the musical child who learns through active participation and grows toward understanding and musical independence. Saturday's workshop will focus on when students are engaged with hands-on learning that is developmentally appropriate and carefully guided, sophisticated musical results can be achieved starting with the simplest of materials. Clear teaching process in combination with elemental music-making allows the learner to engage from introduction to culmination. Workshop will focus on original source materials (Keetman & Orff), folk songs and other musical resources with recorder as one of various media. Please note: The activities in these workshops will focus on lessons for grades 3 -7 and include singing, moving, barred instruments, untuned percussion and recorder. Participants should bring all available voices of recorders. |
